Severe Duty Report - June 2011
Fuel Savings Sway Fleet Owner to Switch to Coronado® SD Trucks
The owner of Robinson Transport had always thought of Freightliners as on-highway trucks, so when his local dealer offered a six-month trial use of six Coronado® SD trucks, he was openly skeptical. Pretty quickly Robinson started hearing some surprising feedback from his drivers. With more power than their predecessors, the Freightliner Coronado trucks were able to haul slightly heavier loads of coal per run and deliver better fuel economy while doing it.
SD: Tested for Toughness
Want a glimpse behind the scenes as Freightliner engineers put trucks through their paces to earn the coveted severe duty (SD) badge? Ivan Neblett, manager of product strategy for Freightliner Trucks, shares some video and insights into the testing that ensures the 108SD and 114SD are tough enough to deserve the severe duty name.
Product Spotlight: 114SD with Towmaster Snow Plow
Towmaster Truck Equipment transformed one of the first Freightliner 114SD trucks off the line into a "full blown snow plow" by upfitting with the Edge RC body and adding an impressive array of extras. The result, according to Towmaster municipal truck sales rep Tom Gertgen, "is a plow that looks like a monster."
Spotlight On: Financing
At a time when everybody in the industry is keeping an eye on the bottom line, Daimler Truck Financial (DTF) recently introduced a new Work Smart finance program that gives buyers of the new Freightliner 114SD a choice of incentives to sweeten the deal in the way that works best for their individual needs.
