Freightliner’s SmartWay Trucks
Working together with the EPA, we made sure three of our trucks
— Cascadia, Century and Columbia — all met the
voluntary specifications to carry the EPA SmartWay logo.
EPA SmartWay Specifications
By meeting or exceeding the following specs, the EPA estimates
carriers can slash their fuel consumption by 10 to 20 percent!
- Model Year 2007 or later engine (such as the DD15 or the Series
60 from Detroit Diesel)
- Integrated cab–high roof fairing
- Tractor–mounted side fairing gap reducers
- Tractor fuel–tank side fairings
- Aerodynamic bumper and mirrors
- Options for reducing periods of extended engine idling
(auxiliary power unit, generator set, direct fired heater,
battery powered HVAC system, and automatic engine start/stop
system)
- Options for low–rolling resistance tires (single wide
or dual)
